The sixth HERS-SA ACADEMY took place from 21-27 September 2008
at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business, Waterfront, Cape Town.
This year 6 countries were represented. A total of 75 delegates including 56 from all over South Africa plus 19 from Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and the USA, gathered together to share experiences, hear from experts in the field and learn from each other. A total of 37 speakers and facilitators generously shared their experience and knowledge and thus provided a broad platform for the delegates to engage with challenges in the sector and interact with role models.

HERS-SA EMERGING LEADERS ACADEMY FOR WOMEN STUDENT LEADERS
took place from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th July 2008 in Simonstown, Western Cape. This exciting opportunity was for:
Third year or postgraduate, women students at South African universities
Women students who are playing, or wish to play, a leadership role in their student and professional careers
Young women who wish to develop their leadership skills
Young women who wish to explore the higher education environment as a possible career path.
"CONSCIOUS STRATEGIES WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN"
This three-day workshop which took place in May 2008 was co-designed by HERS-SA and USB-Executive Development, University of Stellenbosch Business School. The workshop was delivered as a series of work sessions aimed at making women more aware of issues affecting their careers. They also had the opportunity to reflect on their personal career and life choices, to develop strategies for their future success and to align their personal development with the strategy of their company.

"INSTITUTIONAL CULTURES AND HIGHER EDUCATION LEADERSHIP: WHERE ARE THE WOMEN?" CONFERENCE
This international conference took place in Cape Town on 27 & 28 March 2008 and focused on the shortage of women in higher education
leadership in
Southern Africa
. The Conference,which was a joint initiative of the
Department of Education (DoE), the Council on Higher Education (CHE), Higher
Education South Africa (HESA) and HERS-SA, addressed issues of inclusion,
institutional culture and the development of leadership potential.
